Randall Orchard Construction busy plastering!

Several years of hard work by a dedicated group of volunteers saw a new roof, heating system and double glazing added in recent years. The hall was then closed for  major improvement works between March 2016 – September 2016, funded by Big Lottery grants of almost £500,000. Smaller grants from Northumbrian Water and Durham County Council covered the cost of new lighting down the side of the hall, and wheelchair/buggy ramp access. The refurbishment and improvement work includes:

Facilities: sound system, stage lighting with disco facility, cinema, projector for lectures etc, ‘smart’ TV screens, IT suite, broadband/wi-fi, hearing loop, display boards, commercial grade kitchen, bar
Accessibility: ramp access for wheelchairs and buggies; stairlift, wheelchair accessible toilets, with baby change
Building: new roof, insulation, replacement windows, heating system, new kitchen, flooring, staircase, dimmable lighting

While the exterior remains Victorian, we were determined to maintain the character of the interior, while modernising it for the needs of the 21st century. The huge amount of work that has gone into this project, and the many hours of time readily given by an army of volunteers, really do make Scarth “a hall for all” with something for everyone! More volunteers are always very welcome – see Support Scarth Hall for inspiration!
