
Several years of hard work by a dedicated group of volunteers saw a new roof, heating system and double glazing added in recent years. The hall was then closed for major improvement works between March 2016 – September 2016, funded by Big Lottery grants of almost £500,000. Smaller grants from Northumbrian Water and Durham County Council covered the cost of new lighting down the side of the hall, and wheelchair/buggy ramp access. While the exterior remains Victorian, we were determined to maintain the character of the interior, while modernising it for the needs of the 21st century. The huge amount of work that has gone into this project, and the many hours of time readily given by an army of volunteers, really do make Scarth “a hall for all” with something for everyone!
